Your FIFO Resume: What Recruiters Want to See

Your resume is often the first—and only—impression you make. In FIFO recruitment, where hundreds apply for the same role, standing out comes down to clarity, relevance, and professionalism.

Structure That Works

1. Contact Info

Include your full name, phone number, email address, and city/state.

2. Professional Summary

Write 2–3 lines about your experience, skills, and FIFO readiness. Keep it direct and tailored.

Example:
“Physically fit and safety-conscious labourer with 3+ years in construction. White Card certified and ready for FIFO opportunities across WA.”

3. Certifications & Licences

List these before your work history—recruiters often scan this first:

  • White Card
  • First Aid & CPR
  • HRW Tickets (Forklift, EWP, etc.)
  • Confined Space / Working at Heights
  • Police Clearance

4. Work Experience

Highlight hands-on roles, even if not FIFO. Focus on:

  • Physical labour
  • Shift work
  • Working under pressure
  • Remote work or tough conditions

Use bullet points and action words (e.g., operated, maintained, completed).

5. Skills Section

List practical and behavioural skills like:

  • Machinery operation
  • Team communication
  • Safety compliance
  • Punctuality
  • Manual handling

6. References (Optional)

Add “Available on request” or include 1–2 referees if ready.

Recruiter Red Flags

  • Long unexplained job gaps
  • Spelling or grammar errors
  • 4+ page resumes (keep it under 2)
  • No clear FIFO relevance
  • Buzzwords without proof (“hardworking,” “motivated,” etc.)

Bonus Tips

  • Mirror keywords from the job description
  • Save as a PDF with a clear filename: Firstname_Lastname_Resume.pdf
  • Don’t include a photo, unless requested
